Peru
My first visit to Peru was life altering. I experienced the miraculous healing of the soaring Andean mountain energy. The Peruvian people are extremely gentle, kind and generous. They taught me to sit still and feel the energy of the holy mountain, Apu Ausangate.
During my travels, I met and bonded with an Illa Paccu, or spiritual guide, named Nazario Turpo, a wise, humble farmer and community leader. He has since made his transition, but I continue to experience his guidance and loving hand in my life. He taught me many things: to see the internal, not the external; to witness what is communicated through spirit; to watch from my heart, not with my eyes; to let go of attachments; to let the wyra (wind) blow through me; to follow my calling, even if I don’t feel prepared; that I have everything I need to make a difference; to be my own teacher; to listen to my instincts; and that I already have the answers.
As he encouraged me, I encourage you to stay attuned to the wisdom of others in your life. Teachers come in many forms and it is one of my great joys in life to continue to be a student. We are blessed to have so many rich opportunities to explore our callings.
Africa
I have been to Africa four times and visited twelve countries. The energy of the African continent is teaming with life. I am enchanted by animals of every species and little excites me more than seeing them in their own habitat. In 2008, I went Gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda. Sitting in the jungle witnessing their familial care, their tenderness and playfulness were awe inspiring for me. The culture, tribes and stunning people throughout this vast land have a spirit of dignity and ancient wisdom. Nothing is static. Any trip offers the opportunity to encounter heards of animals, intriguing tribal customs, devastating poverty jux opposed to palacial homes. The unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of these unexpected sites keep me ever vigilant and wanting to return.
Italy
Reputed hot bed of fine art, culture, religion, architecture, history, fashion and food. Famously known for the grandeur of the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, I devour my surroundings like an elaborate feast. Encompassed by the diverse beauty of the Mediterranean and the majestic Alps, Italy is one of my favorite places to relax and play. There is an unending supply of goodies for the senses. From my favorite gelato to a relaxing stroll through the streets of Florence, there is always a new treat to enjoy.
Alaska
I can sum up Alaska with one word — grandeur. Everything here is vast: the water, mountains, glaciers, sky, even the bears. The whales are more maestic and graceful in person; more exciting than any movie can depict. Our animal companions are the epitome of presence. Unlike humans, they are not distracted by judging, condemnation and blaming. They live in concert with nature and one another. Sadly, human needs are now forcing them to compete for dwindling resources. Increasingly, they need our help.
Standing on deck, watching a glacier face tumble into the sea was a breath taking display of nature's power. I have never felt so small. This precious land is a priceless treasure. It was an honor to experience its magnificence.
